Senior residence

Construction of a senior residence, consisting of two buildings and an urban square, designed to accommodate and care for dependent or independent elderly individuals.

The starting point of the project is to create a senior residence that is not isolated, but rather an active hub within the urban cluster and the life of the city. To achieve this, the two existing hornbeams have been preserved as distinctive elements that connect the site to the parish church and the presbytery. The square thus creates a link with the city, becoming a lively meeting place.

The strategic placement of the outdoor spaces was key to the emergence of the two built volumes.

The project aims to meet the program’s challenge with two polygonal volumes that embody two different lifestyles: one independent (studios and apartments) and the other assisted (long-term care). However, they are connected by a transparent base that houses the shared spaces. This allows sunlight from the south to enter and flood the terrace with warm light at lunchtime.

The two volumes are designed to be compact enough to offer generous outdoor spaces. The floor plans efficiently meet the required typologies and integrate well with the village scale. By dividing the façade into several angles, the building’s length, height, and depth are not perceived by passersby. Thus, the proposed architectural form lies somewhere between a public building and a private home, creating a dynamic dialogue with its surroundings.

Flexible living spaces

The load-bearing wooden façade allows for flexible layouts in both buildings.

On the care home side, the rooms are arranged in clusters. Bathrooms shared between two rooms are positioned to create small vestibules that patients can personalize in various ways. Thanks to a curtain that provides privacy, this space can be transformed into a small lounge for conversation.

Each unit includes three relaxation areas: a dining room, a lounge with a view of the landscape, and a sunlit loggia accessible all year round.

On the studio and apartment side, nine studios and six apartments are available. The shape of the rooms is designed in different ways to individualize each unit and thus offer a varied range of accommodations.

A flexible layout designed to offer pleasant and comfortable living spaces.
