Terrou-Bi Hotel

Interior concept design for the extension and renovation project of the 5-star Terrou-Bi Hotel.

As part of its renovation, the Terrou-Bi Hotel—an icon of luxury hospitality in Dakar—has commissioned Patriarche to envision the interior design concept for the hotel and its expansion.

These transformations, which will nearly double its capacity (adding over 100 rooms), aim to elevate the hotel into a premium destination and a showcase of Senegalese craftsmanship.

The project’s goal is to blend local art de vivre with innovation and a contemporary interpretation of African culture. Our mission includes the design of guest rooms and common areas (lobby, restaurant, amphitheater, meeting rooms, terrace and patio, conference space, circulation areas, and restrooms), all of which will enhance the resort’s offerings.

The overall concept draws inspiration from the name Terrou-Bi, meaning “Land on the Horizon.” This promise of tranquility is expressed through a subtly defined horizon line and a palette of refined mineral tones and textures. Horizontal lines guide the eye outward, while the chosen colors and materials reflect the surrounding landscapes. The spaces offer gentle transitions and an atmosphere that is authentic, serene, and welcoming.

This unique identity is rooted in Senegal—particularly Dakar— while offering a distinctly contemporary interpretation tailored to an international clientele.

The Horizon Line – Interpretation

The horizon line, omnipresent throughout the resort, is extended into the interior as a guiding thread. It subtly delineates the various materials used and creates a sense of continuity between spaces. A meticulous alignment of custom-made furniture further reinforces visual coherence and balance.

In certain rooms requiring a more intimate atmosphere—such as bathrooms—the horizon line becomes blurred, colors fade, and the ambiance shifts to a more enveloping and soothing experience.

The “ripple”—that vibration, shimmer, or undulation on the water—is reinterpreted through grooved textures in the selected materials, as well as through light reflections and mirrored surfaces.

Color Palette and Materials

Particular attention was given to the selection of colors and materials, drawing inspiration from the natural and cultural richness of Senegal. The project incorporates elements that reflect the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and local traditions. Mineral and botanical tones blend harmoniously, creating a color palette that evokes the diversity of the territory. The patterns and textures of the chosen materials echo the artisanal weaving techniques emblematic of the region.

Scenography

The decoration has been carefully designed to create a permanent scenography that highlights artworks and local craftsmanship. Each space has been conceived to make room for artistic creations, allowing visitors to discover and appreciate the country’s rich cultural heritage. Artworks— from traditional sculptures to contemporary paintings—are seamlessly integrated, offering visual focal points throughout the resort. This approach creates an environment where local art and craft are celebrated, providing visitors with an immersive and enriching experience.

Each space has been designed to give way to artistic expression, allowing visitors to discover and appreciate the country’s rich cultural heritage.
