Clinique Mutualiste

Construction of an outpatient consultation building and a staff restaurant.

Founded in 1963, the Mutualist Clinic has successfully evolved to meet the needs of the population, integrating cutting-edge services within its facilities. To offer comprehensive and local care, the Clinic has added an Outpatient Consultation Department and a staff restaurant on its premises.

These new buildings, set back from the public road, enhance the overall layout of the Clinic while improving wayfinding for patients and visitors. The durable materials, high-quality architectural design, and the generous, well-maintained landscaped surroundings we have chosen contribute to the long-term revitalization of the site and to the positive public perception of the Mutualist Clinic.

Spatial intentions

Plan de Masse Clinique Mutualiste

Spatial organization

Two clearly defined pedestrian pathways structure the site and guide patients and visitors toward the Clinic’s main entrance.

The entrance to the outpatient consultations, marked by a large covered porch, is located precisely at the intersection of these two pathways, enhancing the site's overall legibility.

At the entrance of each unit are the reception desks and waiting areas, followed by the consultation rooms. Our modular and scalable design offers a flexible layout that can be adapted to the needs of each department: open or enclosed waiting areas, centralized or individual reception desks, and more.

The building’s structure, which provides large open floor plates, allows for a wide range of interior configurations.

The project offers a new image for the Mutualist Clinic, showcasing it within a coherent spatial and landscaped composition.

Our landscaping intervention, carried out in collaboration with Atelier Paysages Graziella Barsacq, allows the new buildings to be respectfully integrated into the urban fabric defined by the existing structures and the landscape of the former park. The clinic’s extension is nestled against the Classified Wooded Area of the pine forest, while the parking area is aligned with the existing row of plane trees, extending to the grove of exotic trees (magnolias, cedars, etc.) along the eastern boundary of the site.

The creation of an outpatient consultation center is, for us, an opportunity to further reflect on the role of gardens in medical facilities.

Gardens and parks are spaces dedicated to calm, walking, and the contemplation of nature, with trees forming their backbone—a world of escape where the landscape is continuously reinvented with the seasons.

These gardens offer a break from the hospital environment, providing patients with a space to reconnect with their loved ones. They are interactive places designed to stimulate the senses, encourage physical activity, and strengthen the body. They are also comfortable spaces for rest and contemplation—for patients, their families, and caregivers alike, who can find moments of respite there.

The Mutualist Clinic embodies all of this: a place of care, a place of work, a place for encounters and sharing. Environmental quality and quality of life are inseparable here.

Water management was a major focus of this project. The design respects the natural water cycle by promoting groundwater recharge through reduced reliance on piping systems and intelligent land grading and slope use.

Our approach aims to maintain a balance between permeable and impermeable surfaces to facilitate rainwater infiltration into the soil. The use of porous materials (stabilized gravel, topsoil, permeable parking grids, etc.) enriches and diversifies the landscape.

Vegetation plays a key role in our design—for providing shade, marking the rhythm of the seasons, and enhancing urban biodiversity.

Finally, the selection of plant species draws inspiration from Bordeaux’s natural environment and follows the recommendations of the local landscape charter, particularly for planting in parking areas and wetland zones.
