Campus Aivancity

Renovation of ENS Cachan to host an innovative school in artificial intelligence: School for Technology, Business & Society Paris-Cachan.

Aivancity School for Technology, Business & Society Paris-Cachan is a private higher education institution with an ambitious goal: to train future professionals in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to help invent the technologies of tomorrow. Built around the triptych of AI, Business, and Ethics, the school aspires to make the Île-de-France region the European capital of AI.

Located on the Cachan campus, the school is part of a broader initiative to develop new educational facilities within existing buildings undergoing renovation. For this project—whose ambitious timeline involved transforming over 3,600 m² of existing space in just one year—our teams reimagined several areas to create a space focused on digital innovation and new uses, designed to be both vibrant and collaborative.
The renovation also reflects a strong commitment to improving the building’s energy performance, made possible through the reuse of materials and the implementation of a circular economy approach.

On a larger scale, the entire campus is part of a comprehensive urban development project that includes housing and services, in addition to existing CROUS residences and facilities. As part of a strategy to enhance the area’s appeal and vitality, the campus is opening up to the city through new access points that also promote soft mobility.

Architectural and landscaping intentions

Collaborative Spaces

For this renovation project, our teams reimagined the design of classrooms, the lecture hall, a Fablab, modular rooms, offices for administrative and teaching staff, a shared workspace, as well as outdoor areas.

The architectural approach aims to enhance welcoming, exchange, and meeting spaces to encourage interaction between students, the school, and their environment. This agile design is conceived to accommodate the future evolution of the institution, particularly in terms of capacity.

A Landscape Reimagined as a Living Space

The challenge for the outdoor areas was to transform the existing layout and bring it back to life. Extending the outdoor working environment reveals an optimal setting for teaching, learning, and sharing, allowing users to enjoy the benefits of nature in an urban context. The various zones that make up the landscaped area — the service and cafeteria courtyards, the forecourt, the meadow, and the southern steps — were redesigned with new plantings and furniture.

The layout of these different living areas aims to make the entire site a rich, open, and vibrant place, with a dynamic school life both indoors and outdoors.

The Blue Ribbon

The use of blue as the guiding thread of a story still being written, affirming the campus’s identity. Like a digital signature spreading outward. Like a light, a pulse glowing across the city.

Blue, as a path — a journey of life and learning to be taken in order to grow. Blue, as a movement felt in every space of the building. Blue, as the expressive surface of a living, vibrant place. An endless dialogue between the space, the school and its values, and those who inhabit it. Blue as the meeting point between AI and society: a new territory, a landscape to explore and co-write, to learn differently.

It’s a strong signal that something is happening here. A pathway that speaks, invites, connects, and lives. A personal journey — a progression through experience, knowledge, and space. This building speaks. It speaks to us.

"Thank you to Patriarche for the creativity and professionalism of your teams. Thanks to your collaboration, we are turning this campus into a remarkable example of innovation in educational spaces and openness to the city."

Environmental quality and innovation

Through bioclimatic optimization and improved efficiency of technical systems, the renovation of this 2005 building (built prior to the RT 2012 regulation) leads to a significant improvement in its energy performance. Various technical systems were studied to reduce energy consumption:

  • Implementation of an efficient multi-energy distribution system for heating and cooling production
  • Installation of new air handling units for ventilation, offering over 80% efficiency. Airflow is managed based on actual occupancy rates.
  • Selection of high-efficiency lighting equipment to promote natural brightness
  • Deployment of a Centralized Technical Management system (BMS) with real-time monitoring

"Improving the building’s energy performance through bioclimatic optimization and more efficient technical systems."

Reuse: an environmental and societal enhancement

For this renovation project, Autumn | Patriarche proposed a proactive approach to the project owner, focusing on the reuse of construction materials prior to demolition. To achieve this, the team partnered with Mobius, a key player in waste reduction and the intelligent use of material and energy resources, offering a new perspective on construction aimed at improving both the energy and societal performance of the project.

Two “collaborative dismantling days” were organized and supervised by Mobius teams. On site, 9 associations collected the equivalent of €21,000 worth of new materials. This represents savings in the production of equivalent new items, amounting to 2.7 tons of waste avoided and 12 tons of CO₂ equivalent — the energy consumed by a city car driving around the world 20 times.
