A new milestone has been reached in the transformation of the former Lassagne middle school in Caluire-et-Cuire: finishing works have begun, revealing the first classrooms within the renovated building.

Covering approximately 5,000 m², the project aims to bring together a school group, a music school (AMC2), and a municipal leisure center (Caluire Jeunes) within a cohesive, secure, and landscaped ensemble.

Among the recent developments on site: the restructuring of the building’s corner is underway to connect the renovation and the extension. This latter section, which includes a basement, is intended for the AMC2 music school, Caluire Jeunes, and shared uses with the elementary school. The structural works for the street-side extension are now complete, and work is continuing with the installation of timber-frame façades scheduled for May.

This rehabilitation project is notably based on minimizing its carbon impact, through the preservation of two out of the three existing buildings, as well as a bioclimatic approach focused on reducing the building’s energy needs and the use of materials such as wood.

In parallel, the project incorporates ‘clean energy’ solutions, including a rooftop photovoltaic plant and connection to the district heating network. One of the buildings is topped with an intensive green roof (40 cm of fertile substrate), integrated into the overall landscape strategy.

Overall, the project’s reuse approach represents a saving of 24,000 tonnes of waste and a reduction of 100 tonnes of carbon emissions.
