Trois-Rivières Terminal

A transformation that honors the past and looks to the future.

Built in 1983, the Trois-Rivières terminal stood out for its bold architecture, characterized by curved volumes that today give it heritage value recognized by the City. Now outdated, the facility is undergoing a major expansion and transformation project.

The existing building is being fully preserved and repurposed into a warm, multifunctional waiting area that can also host occasional events. A new contemporary section — four times larger — will house modernized airport functions: airline counters, security area, restaurant and kitchen space, baggage claim with carousel, warehouse and cargo facilities, as well as administrative offices, staff rooms, and a conference room on the upper floor.

A hybrid structure

The expansion project, developed in close dialogue with the existing building, required meticulous technical coordination—particularly to integrate the new volume with the original structure. The choice of a hybrid structure combining exposed glulam (glued-laminated timber) and concealed conventional framing emerged as an aesthetic, functional, and sustainable solution. Wood, used as a strong architectural element, brings natural warmth and a distinctive spatial quality to the interior, while also contributing to the building’s environmental performance.
