La maison Livernois

A distillery that honors the past.

Maison Livernois offers a bistro-style menu and a wide selection of Quebec spirits, including Jules-Ernest gin, distilled on-site. With its charm and architectural heritage, the atmosphere is both warm and sophisticated. Lighting plays a key role in highlighting essential elements such as the bar, stone walls, and woodwork. Through its laboratory—a dedicated space for tasting local spirits—the restaurant can host large groups in Québec City's unique ambiance.

From old barrels to paper archives pasted on the restroom walls, the layout pays tribute to heritage and beautifully blends raw and refined materials. In honor of the Livernois family, once deeply involved in the Québec City community, each spirit distilled on-site will bear the name of one of its members.

Plan Maison Livernois

Integrated lighting is a key component of the project. It alternates between indirect light and targeted effects to shape volumes, reveal textures, and create a soft, evolving ambiance from day to night. Directional spotlights, concealed LED strips, and suspended fixtures anchor the various zones of the restaurant while highlighting architectural and finishing details.

The signature element of the project is the bar area, clad in wood, with integrated storage and backlit display shelves. It serves as a visual landmark. In this zone, a metal mesh grid embedded in the floor guides visitors through the space while offering a transparent glimpse of the technical conduits leading to the distillation equipment, including a visible copper still. This architectural gesture reveals the behind-the-scenes of production and celebrates artisanal craftsmanship.

At the back, the laboratory evokes a warm wine cellar, with barrels suspended from the ceiling and a soft, intimate ambiance. It features a series of integrated black storage units inspired by old apothecaries, with small drawers and golden handles—designed for both functionality and aesthetics. The space hosts group tastings in a cozy setting, blending raw textures with thoughtful storytelling.

Through a balance of memory, staging, and technical mastery, Livernois House embodies a vibrant, narrative-driven space that celebrates both Quebec’s heritage and today’s artisanal craftsmanship.
