Reinventing the Heart of the Campus: The Transformation of the Breguet Building at CentraleSupélec

While construction is in full swing, this video revisits the key architectural principles that guided the rehabilitation of the Louis-Charles Breguet building, located at the heart of the CentraleSupélec campus in Gif-sur-Yvette. Designed in the 1970s, this iconic building is undergoing an ambitious transformation led by Atelier Kempe Thill and Patriarche, with the aim of reconnecting it to the Carré des Sciences, the district’s central hub.

The creation of a central hall, a true “capable volume,” becomes the spatial and social pivot of the project. It encourages interaction, serendipity, and new forms of learning, while revealing the existing structure. The project embraces a respectful approach to the original architecture, with strong environmental ambitions: reuse of materials, low-carbon concrete, internal insulation, solar gain control, and natural ventilation.
Through the architects’ testimonials, this video reveals the intentions behind this large-scale rehabilitation, designed to accommodate contemporary uses while enhancing the architectural heritage of CentraleSupélec.
