A ring of light, accelerator of emotions. Le Phare, the Chambéry Métropole sports, conference and concert hall was inaugurated in 2009. This chameleon-style facility can be used to host all types of events in configurations ranging in capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 places. Several events are scheduled here, ranging from concerts to shows on ice and including the bishop’s ordination and of course all the matches of the Savoie Handball Club, run by Daniel Narcisse. Le Phare can also be used for tennis matches or motocross competitions, rather like a smaller version of Bercy.
FOCUS by Jean-Loup Patriarche
In response to the architecture design contest launched in 2004 for creation of the new hall for the Chambery metropolis, 70 proposals were submitted. When the bids were opened, 5 were selected. The firm finally selected was Patriarche & Co, whose proposal was designed to successfully combine the many vocations of the premises while seeking to achieve the truly beautiful - “functional and aesthetically pleasing”. A glass ring encircles the elliptical shell, playing the role of a subtle border so that the complex comes alive from both inside and outside, like a “magic lantern” inhabited by the spirits of sport, culture and economics. The living building catalyses energy and intensifies emotions! “Le Phare” (French for lighthouse) lights up .... the lighthouse comes to life!
FOCUS SCENOGRAPHY
Flexible and lasting sceneographic tools, capable of meeting requirements in respect of show techniques, operational realism and handling. Various configurations can be achieved by manipulating the audience capacity. “Sports” mode brings supporters as close as possible to the action !
The framework consists of movable lattice girders enabling the technical platform to be installed safely. 40 tonnes of equipment can be suspended above each stage position. A longitudinal layout for the big popular events, a different transverse layout with gently sloping stands for smaller, more intimate shows.
We have designed an amazing system that incorporates the very essence of the show!
FOCUS SIGNAGE
The signage for Le Phare was designed to blend in with the architectural project. The graphic elements, which are deliberately clearly understandable and aesthetically simple, have been created for great legibility. This point is all the more important in that the spectators need to find their way through the crowd. The colours are reminiscent of the Savoie cross, but were chosen to reflect the emotion-filled beat of a heart !
