The Design of a green-field industrial campus. Since 1993 Patriarche & Co has been the town planning consultant and architect for development of the Boiron laboratories’ biotechnology campus in the region west of Lyon. This complex development is being organised in successive phases. The campus includes offices, R&D laboratories, manufacturing buildings and logistics platforms, organised according to a structured and functional development plan. The Boiron laboratories’ site is one of the first brand new industrial campus development projects.
FOCUS by Xavier Patriarche
A site blueprint was designed by Patriarche & Co to define the programme and determine the precise requirements in partnership with future users. This initial planning work led to the design of an overall development plan taking account, from 1993 onwards, of the different functions and the necessity to organise flows (manufacturing units, logistics, offices, canteen, etc.).
The programme is being developed phase by phase, in compliance with this overall plan. The Boiron laboratories site therefore has the benefit of construction cohesion due to the form and height of its buildings (maximum 4 storeys), as well as the use of modern materials such as white concrete, metal cladding and wooden panels. The completed campus will ultimately reflect pure and functional volumes, integrated into the natural environment.
The quality of the most recent constructions, the group of 3 M-E-S office buildings, has been officially classified by the “Observatoire Départemental de l’Architecture, de l’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement du Rhône” (the Rhone regional observatory of architecture, town planning and the environment).
