The Girod building was designed by Louis Moynat in 1937 in Art Deco style. The original building, like all the architect’s works, is a typical example of modernism at the beginning of the 20th century. The refurbishment exercise therefore consisted of restoring the original spirit of the Moynat architecture while adapting it to the specific characteristics of the programme. The major idea underlying our project was enhancement of the main building on the street, as a significant example of this Art Deco period. The work behind it then reiterates the concept of glass and macro-structure embedded in the natural terrain in an architecture more respectful of the building.
