Fighting global warming is the 21st century’s greatest challenge.
Architecture has a part to play in order to find the balance between carbon emissions and quality of life inside the living spaces we create. This challenge calls for common sense, but also requires architects and engineers to work closely together.
Their collective work is helping define the priorities for human beings. This requires us to relentlessly seek innovation, and break away from our habits . Creating energy efficient spaces, without giving up comfort, function, health, or a pleasant visual atmosphere ( access to natural lighting, ergonomics, conception of space, soundproofing, etc…).
Innovation in architecture is the capacity to start a revolution of ideas in the building world, in order to promote and encourage construction modes more adapted to our times.
Our practice is set in a rich and quickly evolving social context , and social and urban policies lie at the heart of the debate. These were outlined in the fall of 2007 during the «Grenelle de ’Environnement» debates, and endorsed by the french government in a strategy to support sustainable development.
Environmental sustainability involves minimizing the imprint of a project on a site and optimizing energy efficiency . However, this is not enough. Human beings need to be placed at the heart of the project.Early on, we anticipate the impact of the technical choices we make : their influence on building temperatures, humidity levels, availability of natural light, smells, flux, work relations.
